Congress' Bharat Bhushan Ashu faces new legal trouble in Transport Scam; SC issues notice on Punjab Govt's appeal

Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu seems to be getting embroiled in fresh legal trouble in alleged Transport Scam. As per reports, Supreme Court of India has issued notice on Punjab government's appeal

Punjab government had appealed against the High Court's decision. High Court had ordered to close the case linked to Bharat Bhushan Ashu.

An alleged transport scam took place when Ashu was Food and Supply Minister. Case may be reopened in transport scam.

What is the Transport Scam?

Bharat Bhushan Ashu, the former Food and Civil Supplies Minister, is accused of manipulating the tender allocation process in exchange for bribes, favoring select contractors. Ashu also remained under ED's scanner.

ED had launched its investigation in 2024 based on FIRs filed by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. These irregularities pertain to the allocation of government contracts.

The alleged transport scam is said to be around Rs 2000 crore.
