Counter-Intelligence ASI Fatally Shot in Tarn Taran While Riding Home

ASI Iqbal Singh, 55, was posted with the Counter-Intelligence unit in Ferozepur; murder may be linked to the killing of his nephew in September

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Punjab Police was allegedly shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in Tarn Taran on Sunday evening while he was returning home after completing his duty.

The deceased has been identified as Iqbal Singh, 55, a resident of Naushera Pannuan in Tarn Taran district. He was posted with the Counter-Intelligence unit in Ferozepur.

Attack Near Patwarkhana on Lohka Road

According to preliminary information, Iqbal Singh was returning home on his motorcycle at around 7:30 pm after completing his duty in Ferozepur. When he reached near the Patwarkhana on the Naushera-Lohka Road, unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on him.

He sustained bullet injuries and died at the spot. The attackers fled from the scene, allegedly taking advantage of the darkness.

Possible Link to Nephew’s Murder

The killing is being linked to an earlier murder reported on September 11, when Iqbal Singh’s nephew, Ajmeet Singh, was allegedly shot dead by motorcycle-borne assailants.

An accused in that case was reportedly injured during a police encounter and subsequently arrested. Investigators are examining whether the two incidents are connected.

Gangster Claims Responsibility on Social Media

Meanwhile, gangster Donny Bal has reportedly claimed responsibility for the killing through a social media post uploaded using an account in the name of Gopi Ghanshyam.

However, the authenticity of the post and the claim of responsibility have not been independently verified.

Police Begin Investigation

Following the incident, senior police officials reached the spot along with a police team. DSP Patti Ravi Sher Singh said the area had been cordoned off and evidence was being collected.

Police are investigating the motive behind the murder and working to identify the assailants. CCTV footage from the surrounding area and nearby routes is also being examined as part of the investigation.
