A local court in Chandigarh has temporarily restrained Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira and Justice (retd.) Ranjit Singh from publishing, circulating or making unverified allegations against Dr Gurpreet Kaur, wife of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The order came after Dr Gurpreet Kaur approached the court seeking restrictions on statements and content linked to her and now the three defendants have been temporarily restrained from publishing or circulating any unverified defamatory content concerning Dr Gurpreet Kaur.
The restriction applies to social media platforms as well as other forms of media.
This means that the defendants have been barred, until further orders, from posting or sharing such allegations through social media or making them through any other medium.
The court specifically stated that the defendants are “temporarily restrained from publishing, circulating or making any unverified defamatory content” through social media platforms or any other media and the order is an interim restriction and the matter is still pending before the court. The next hearing has been scheduled for September 30, 2026.
