Court sends Golden Temple Sarovar reel accused to 14-day judicial custody

Earlier, on January 28, the court had sent the youth, Subhan Rangrij on a three-day police remand.

The man who made a reel washing his face and gargling in the sacred Golden Temple's Sarovar was produced again in the court today. Reports confirm that the Muslim youth has been sent to 14-day judicial custody. Earlier, on January 28, the court had sent the youth, identified as Subhan Rangrij on a three-day police remand. After the completion of his three-day police remand, he was produced in the court again today.

Following the controversy that had erupted after the man made a reel washing his face and gargling in the sacred Golden Temple’s Sarovar. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), has filled a FIR against Subhan Rangrij, who is a resident of Ghaziabad, in the E Division Police Station of Amritsar.

The video that the man shot showed him sitting at the edge of the Sarovar with his feet in the water, he then proceeds to gargle three times and then later spits the sacred water back into the Sarovar. This move had drawn a lot of criticism from the SGPC. SGPC Legal Advisor Amanbir Singh Syali said that the committee has also investigated this entire matter at its own level. He further informs that during the investigation, it has come to light that the said Muslim youth had reached Sri Darbar Sahib with the intention of desecrating it. According to him, on January 13, the youth had come to Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib with his four friends and remained inside the Darbar Sahib for about 20 minutes.

The SGPC had previously imposed restrictions on filming reels within the Golden Temple premises to protect religious sentiments. Sevadars are assigned specifically to ensure that no objectionable content is recorded or shared from the holy site.
