Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav (DGP) visited the site of a blast in Jalandhar toady a day after explosions were reported in both Jalandhar and Amritsar and police and security agencies are now investigating both cases very carefully.
In Jalandhar the blast happened late at night outside the Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters where an Activa scooter was found at the spot which is believed to be linked to the explosion and the DGP reached the area, checked the spot and reviewed the situation with senior Army and Punjab Police officers.
A search operation was also carried out in the surrounding area to look for any clues and police are checking CCTV cameras installed nearby to understand what exactly happened before the blast while at the same time samples collected from the spot have been sent to a forensic lab and these tests will help find out what kind of explosive was used.
DGP says that such blasts could be caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and also said that in the Jalandhar case the blast might have been triggered using a timer or a remote control and further said that there is a possibility of involvement of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI as well and according to him such incidents may be part of an attempt to disturb peace in Punjab.
He also mentioned that the timing of these blasts could be linked to the anniversary of “Operation Sindoor” and while talking earlier in Amritsar the DGP had addressed the media after visiting the blast site there he had said that police received information about the explosion around 10:50 pm after which teams quickly reached the spot and secured the area.
DGP described the Amritsar blast as low intensity meaning it was not very powerful and some small metal pieces (shrapnel) were found at the site which suggests that an IED may have been used and the DGP also said that many teams are working on the case including police, intelligence agencies, and forensic experts.
DGP says that CCTV footage has given some important clues but these are not being shared publicly right now and investigators are also checking mobile phone data and other digital evidence and also spoke about a social media claim by a group called Khalistan Liberation Army and said that this group may not be real and could be used by ISI to spread fear and confusion.
The DGP has made an appeal to the public to not believe in rumours that circulate on social media and has asked everyone to stay alert and not get influenced by misleading information along with this he also assured that Punjab Police is fully capable of handling the situation and said that the people responsible for these blasts will be caught soon.
