Drone spotted near Amritsar Airport: What was the truth?

A police investigation has now clarified that the drone was not linked to any suspicious or unlawful activity beyond violating the existing flight restriction.

Police investigation reveals no suspicious activity

Panic spread near Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport in Amritsar after a drone was reportedly spotted in the vicinity, raising concerns over a possible security threat. However, a police investigation has now clarified that the drone was not linked to any suspicious or unlawful activity beyond violating the existing flight restriction.

Drone was being used to record sports tournament

According to the investigation by Rajasansi Police Station, the drone was being operated from Jhanjoti village, located some distance from the airport. A sports tournament was being organised in the village, and the drone was reportedly being used by an individual to record aerial footage of the event.

Police officials reached the airport's outer area to verify the reported drone activity and traced it to the ongoing tournament.

8-Km no-drone zone around airport

While the drone was not found to be part of any suspicious activity, its operation still violated restrictions imposed around the airport. The district administration has prohibited drone flights within an 8-kilometre radius of the airport due to security concerns.

Police initiate necessary action

Rajasansi SHO Gurpreet Singh said that ASI Niranjan Singh, the duty officer, conducted the verification after the drone was reported near the airport. The investigation confirmed that it was being used for videography of the sports tournament in Jhajhoti.

Police are now taking necessary action over the violation of the drone-flying restrictions.
