ED busts drug racket worth crores via Punjab de-addiction centres, raids 4 cities

ED raided 4 cities in a drug laundering case linked to 22 Punjab de-addiction centres. Doctor, drug inspector and pharma firm under investigation.

In a major development, the Jalandhar Enforcement Directorate, abbreviated as ED, raided FOUR places between Punjab and Mumbai on July 18, 2025. It is to be reported that the raid was conducted after the officials received a hint related to the ongoing investigation on the illegal sale of drugs by 22 private de-addiction centers in Punjab, across the mentioned regions.

According to the preliminary reports, the Jalandhar ED raided Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Barnala, and Mumbai.

The Investigation -

It is to be mentioned that the raid was started after ED commenced investigation based on the FIRs registered by the Punjab Police against Dr Amit Bansal and others.

According to the FIR, Amit Bansal, who runs around 22 private de-addiction centers across Punjab, was responsible for misusing a drug named Buprenorphine/Naloxone (BNX), which is used to get rid of addiction.

Along with this, Dr Bansal was also held responsible for selling these drugs illegally through his de-addiction centres and misusing these institutions.

Involvement of Drug Inspector Rupinder Kaur -

The investigation has revealed a shocking involvement of drug inspector Rupinder Kaur, who was involved with Dr Bansal in committing this illegal selling of drugs. Reportedly, Kaur helped Bansal by providing him with a fake investigation report to hide the sale, purchase, and illegal supply of drugs.

Money Laundering Case -

Besides this, the Enforcement Directorate conducted a search across a pharma company and the manufacturers of BNX medicine, Rusan Pharma Limited.

An active step towards combating drug abuse across Punjab -

It is worth mentioning that this particular action of the ED has been considered to be a major initiative towards stopping the drug trade in Punjab and exposing the money laundering taking place under some of the medical institutions.
