Elderly woman killed with sharp weapon in Amritsar, tenants suspected

A large quantity of gold was also present in the house due to which a possibility is raised that this murder might have taken place with an intent of robbery.

A devastating incident has come to light in Indira Colony located on Majitha Road in Amritsar where an elderly woman, identified as Veena Rani, has been brutally murdered with the help of a sharp weapon by some unknown assailants. As per information, the woman was aged between 65 to 70 years. The deceased woman’s daughter, Simi says that she lived in the house with her mother along with two young men who had been living in the house as tenants for approximately the past two years.

The family shares that both the youths were fluent in Punjabi and their behavior was never suspicious and always normal and calm. As per reports, one of the tenants was discussing with his wife about leaving the village while the other tenant has mentioned getting an Australian visa and throwing a party. It is alleged that on the pretext of party alcohol mixed with drugs was used. Later, around 1 AM, the elderly woman was attacked with a sharp weapon and murdered. Both the accused youths fled the scene after committing the crime.

The incident came to light when other tenants living upstairs informed about it in the morning. Learning about the incident the family went to inspect and opened the door and found the elderly woman murdered with blood spilt everywhere and the household goods scattered around. Allegedly, a large quantity of gold was also present in the house due to which a possibility is raised that this murder might have taken place with an intent of robbery.

Upon learning about the incident, the police reached the spot and initiated the probe. ADCP Sirivennela talking about the case says that the two tenants are suspected and the matter is currently being investigated from all possible angles. At the same time, Karamjit Singh Rintu the Chairman of the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) has urged the public to thoroughly investigate the tenants before allowing them to stay at their homes. The victim’s family has demanded the police to arrest the culprits early and ensure justice. The police has assured that the accused would be held soon and further investigation into the case is going on.
