The National Highway Authority of India has come up with 2 major projects for the coming years. These projects include the construction of 2 new toll plazas on the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway along with Jalandhar Ring road (Bypass). These will be constructed on the strategic areas of Jalandhar that include the main entries into the city. According to the National Highway Authority of India the structural work of these toll plazas will commence alongside the creation of the Delhi- Amritsar-Katra expressway and the Jalandhar Ring road. This means that as soon as these roads come into force, the toll taxes will start their operation and collection of taxes from people.
Target of completion: End of 2027
Various construction companies are working on this project day and night. According to the information by the officials of National Highway Authority, the completion of this part of the expressway is targeted by the end of 2027. Officials also stated that places of the establishment of toll plazas of this Nakodar road based entire project has also been finalized by the authorities. For this the aquisition of the necessary area is also done by the officials.
Places for Toll plaza
According to the primary discussion of the establishment course, the initial finalized places have been shifted to different places. This was done due to strategical and technical reasons. According to the schedule, one of the plazas will be constructed between Gohir and Kang Sahbu and other between Madara and Chuhadwali. The construction of this route has been put on hold because of the construction of the Adampur flyover. As per reports, As soon the Adampur flyover construction begins and becomes stagnant, the simultaneous build work of this plaza will also start. For commuters, it is a sign of relief that the toll plaza will only come into effect when the road will be open for transport
Toll tax to be equivalent to the Beas and Bhogpur toll tax
According to the sources of the NHA the toll tax collected from the new toll plazas may be equal to the amount of the Beas and Bhogpur toll plaza. This clearly reveals that after 2027, an additional toll amount has to be added to the budget of travelers entering Jalandhar from Himachal Pradesh or Nakodar.
Estimated Project Cost
Both Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway and Jalandhar Ring road are considered one of the most important projects. Having a look at the fundamental structure of the expressway, an amount of around 38,905 Crores-40,000 crores is estimated. Due to land acquisition and construction the amount may distinctively increase. The Jalandhar Greenfield (Ring Road) is a 6-lane road starting from Kahlon (NH-3) and through Saramastpur (NH-44), Madara, Khajurla and ending at Kang Sabu (NH-703). This project may also take hundreds of Crores to build.
Boh these projects are estimated to complete by the end of 2027. This construction will lead to an effective flow of transport through Punjab, Haryana and Jammu-Kashmir while residents of Jalandhar will need to pay extra charges on the toll plaza.
