Punjabi singer Sunanda Sharma has landed in controversy after her latest song Jogi was suddenly removed from YouTube due to a copyright dispute and the singer has claimed that fake documents were allegedly used to get the song taken down from the platform.
Sunanda Sharma released Jogi on her official YouTube channel on May 21 under her own independent music label and the song quickly started gaining attention online and reportedly crossed 1.8 million views within just a few days of its release however on May 26 the song disappeared from YouTube leaving fans shocked and confused.
After the song was removed Sunanda Sharma shared a detailed statement on social media and explained the reason behind the issue and according to the singer the song was released only after completing all legal paperwork and agreements and talking further about the same she said that she has learned with time that proper documentation is very important in the music industry especially while working on independent projects.
Sunanda alleged that some former promoters linked to songwriter Raja submitted fake ownership documents to YouTube and claimed that these documents were used to file a complaint against the song which led YouTube to temporarily remove it from the platform.
As per YouTube’s copyright policy songs or videos are often taken down temporarily if there is a dispute regarding ownership or rights and this is done to avoid legal complications until the matter is reviewed properly. Sunanda’s team has claimed that the documents submitted against Jogi are fake and misleading and the singer said the controversy has affected the morale of the entire team. She especially mentioned songwriter Raja and said he was deeply hurt by the situation and according to Sunanda everyone involved in the project worked very hard on the song and such disputes create emotional stress for artists and creators.
In her statement Sunanda also gave an important message to young artists and creators and advised people to always complete proper paperwork before entering any business deal and the singer said that legal documents are necessary to avoid future problems and misunderstandings in the entertainment industry.
Apart from speaking about the copyright issue Sunanda also appealed to people not to create unnecessary obstacles for others and said helping others move forward in life brings greater happiness and success and the singer also thanked her fans for continuously supporting Jogi and said the song was already receiving a lot of love from listeners before it was removed.
Sunanda said her legal team is currently handling the matter and working to remove the copyright strike from YouTube and expressed confidence that Jogi will soon return to the platform after the legal process is completed.
The singer also addressed rumours spreading on social media about her older songs allegedly disappearing from YouTube and clearly stated that only Jogi has been affected by the copyright dispute and further clarified that her recently released song Dilbar is completely safe and still available on her official YouTube channel.
Sunanda further explained that Jogi was not removed from the channel of any outside music company instead the song was taken down directly from her own official YouTube channel because she is now independently releasing music under her personal label.
At present the legal process regarding copyright dispute is ongoing and fans are now waiting for an official update from YouTube and Sunanda Sharma’s team regarding return of Jogi to the platform.
