Recently, a cyber scam is brewing in Jalandhar city where fake E-challans are being used to scam people. People are receiving fake E-challan messages on their mobile phones via SMS and WhatsApp messages. The ADCP (Operations and Security) Vineet Kumar says that these scammers are exploiting the residents in the name of E-challan system and scamming them. The scammers have now established this new way of misleading the public and extracting their personal and sensitive details.
Talking about the emergent issue the ADCP Vineet Kumar has warned the public against the fake E-challans. He informs that a real and genuine E-challan are sent only through SMS on the registered mobile number. This message is sent from the official government portal parivahan.gov.in.
A fake E-challan message is often sent from unverified numbers and usually contain suspicious looking links, barcodes or APK files attached to it. It is very important that you do not click on any such link. One must not give away any personal or sensitive information and stay vigilant at all times.
Citizens are advised to verify all the details related to the challan only through the official Parivahan website. The ADCP further adds that people should avoid clicking on any such links received from suspicious and unverified numbers and immediately report it to the authorities.
