The CBI investigation into the bribery case involving former DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar has created a stir across Punjab’s bureaucracy. According to top sources connected with the CBI probe, the agency has received information about 4 IAS and 10 IPS officers from the state who were allegedly involved in suspicious financial activities currently under examination.
The investigation gained momentum after CBI arrested former DIG Bhullar while he was accepting a bribe of ₹5 lakh. During subsequent searches, the agency recovered nearly 2 kg of gold, around ₹7.5 crore in cash, and several documents. After taking Bhullar on remand, the CBI questioned him extensively, during which he revealed details that led investigators to more officers.
Sources say that among the 10 IPS officers whose names have surfaced, 8 are currently serving in field positions, while 2 are on sidelined postings. The 4 IAS officers identified reportedly have administrative links connected to the Mandi Gobindgarh region in different capacities.
The CBI is now verifying the information and examining financial trails connected to the officers. According to officials, the names of these officers may be presented in court during Bhullar’s scheduled hearing tomorrow, after which the agency may take further steps as required.
The case is expected to widen as the CBI continues to scrutinize records and statements gathered during the investigation.
