A property dispute has taken a deadly turn in Mohali, with property dealer and old farmhouse owner Amandeep Singh Bhanghu allegedly being murdered at his farmhouse in Sector 87. According to the FIR registered by Sohana police and the information provided, the victim was allegedly attacked and his throat was slit in what investigators suspect was a planned killing.
Amandeep Singh was also known to be a close associate of former Punjab minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra, adding a political connection to a case that otherwise appears to have its roots in a long-running family and property dispute.
A dispute over property turns deadly
The FIR was registered on the complaint of Amandeep Singh’s wife, Ramandeep Kaur. Her statement describes a prolonged dispute involving the family’s property and alleges that her brother, Pardeep Singh, along with another person, was behind the attack.
According to the complaint, the dispute had been continuing over the ownership and division of property. The FIR indicates that tensions escalated after disagreements over the property, with the complainant alleging that her brother had a motive connected to the dispute.
The victim reportedly owned an old farmhouse in the Sector 87 area of Mohali, where he also dealt in property. The farmhouse became the scene of the fatal attack.
The evening the crime unfolded
According to the FIR, on August 18, 2026, around 5:40 p.m., the family was informed that something had gone seriously wrong at the Sector 87 property.
The complaint alleges that Pardeep Singh and another person confronted Amandeep Singh and attacked him. The assault turned fatal, with the victim suffering a severe injury to his throat.
The FIR further records the family's efforts to reach the location and arrange medical assistance. Amandeep was subsequently taken for treatment, but he had already suffered fatal injuries.
Brother-in-law named in FIR
The complaint specifically names Pardeep Singh, son of Surinder Singh, as an accused and alleges that another person was involved in the crime.
The case has been registered under Section 103 and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to murder and acts carried out with common intention, according to the FIR.
The allegations are part of the complainant's statement and will have to be established through the police investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
Police begin investigation
Following the complaint, Sohana police registered the case and initiated an investigation. The FIR records that Inspector Simarjit Singh, posted at Police Station Sohana, has been directed to investigate the case.
Police are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the killing, statements of family members and witnesses, the crime scene and other available evidence to establish the sequence of events and the roles of the accused.
The FIR also indicates that relevant forensic and investigative procedures are being undertaken and that the accused named in the case are being pursued.
A murder with a political connection
While the immediate allegations point towards a property dispute, the murder has attracted attention because Amandeep Singh Bhanghu was reportedly a close friend and associate of former Punjab minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra.
That association, however, does not by itself establish any political motive in the murder. At this stage, the FIR and the information provided point primarily towards a family and property dispute as the alleged trigger.
What began as a dispute over property has now become a murder investigation, with police tasked with establishing whether the alleged property conflict was indeed the motive and determining exactly how the attack was planned and executed.
The investigation is now expected to piece together the final hours of Amandeep Singh’s life, the movements of those allegedly involved and the circumstances that led to the fatal attack at the Sector 87 farmhouse.
