In a massive development, the Special Investigation Team of Punjab Police on Thursday arrested Chartered Accountant Satinder Singh Kohli. As per information received, CA Kohli was arrested from a hotel in Chandigarh. He was arrested after being named in the FIR among 16 people filed in case related to 328 missing saroops of Sri Gurr Granth Sahib Ji.
Chartered Accountant Satinder Singh Kohli is said to be close to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal. Satinder Singh Kohli used to handle audit work of the SGPC. He came into the spotlight in connection with irregularities in the SGPC accounts.
Former Cabinet Minister and AAP MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal termed it a “historic day” for the Sikh community.
Interacting with the media, Dhaliwal said, "Actions are being taken in the case on demand of Sangats. Kohli had a big role during those days. He was an auditor of SGPC. He used to keep a track from where the saroops came and where did it go."
"Politics should not be done in the case. Simply tell us who took the saroops and where did it, the case will be over."
On December 29, Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann had said that there was anger among Sikh community over the missing saroops case. Punjab Chief Minister further questioned SGPC on why did they say that issue of the missing saroops is now over after the government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case.
Punjab Government on December 22 formed a six member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case of 328 missing Saroops of Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
The SIT is headed by AIG Vigilance Jagatpreet Singh and the investigation is supervised by Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
