In a major development in the Chandigarh Sector 9 murder case, gangster Lucky Patial has claimed responsibility for the killing of the 31-year-old property dealer, Charanpreet Singh. This has now shifted the focus of the investigation towards gang involvement.

Lucky Patial’s statement that has been circulating online claims that the murder took place because Charanpreet was involved with his rival groups and had been working as an informant, sharing information with them. He also linked the victim to another murder case in Mohali, claiming his involvement in the killing of Gurvinder.

12 rounds fired at close range

Charanpreet Singh, a resident of Kubbaheri village in Mullanpur, was shot dead in broad daylight in one of Chandigarh’s most high-security areas. According to reports, he had just stepped out of a gym and was getting into his Scorpio SUV when two assailants arrived on a motorcycle and fired at least 12 rounds at him at close range, killing him on the spot. Charanpreet had sustained multiple bullet injuries to his chest, abdomen, and arm and he collapsed in the driver’s seat, following which he was rushed to the PGI hospital, but died on the way due to excessive blood loss.

Police probe on

Following the incident, police reached the spot and recovered 12 empty shell casings. As of now, the police have not yet confirmed the authenticity of the statement but are investigating the angle of gang rivalry along with other possible motives and continued efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the attackers as soon as possible.
