In a major development, a video of ginger getting washed allegedly toilet cleaner and other acids is going viral. In the video which is said to be Jalandhar's famous Maqsudan Sabzi Mandi, a group of men can be seen cleaning ginger on the ground. A person shoots the video and a voice can be heard in the background that gingers that will later go to cities for consumption of people are being cleaned by toilet cleaner, and dirty water.
After Jalandhar Maqsudan Mandi Video went viral, Health Department swung into action. As per reports, a team of health officials camped in and around the Maqsoodan Sabzi Mandi for nearly four hours on Thursday, conducting intensive inspections.
After the video went viral, the usual washing spots where ginger was earlier cleaned with harmful chemicals were seen using only clean water. The toilet cleaner and acid containers were also removed.
In Jalandhar Ginger Viral Video case, DC Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal has sought a response from the District Health Officer and District Mandi officials within 24 hours.
Following this, District Health Officer Sukhwinder Singh, Food Supply Officer Robin Kumar, and Mandi Market Committee Secretary Rupinder Singh inspected the washing sites around the market and collected four samples.
It's worth noting that washing ginger with toilet cleaner and acid poses a risk of cancer, ulcers, and liver damage. After the video went viral, acid and toilet cleaner from the spot were removed.
Mandi officials stated that retailers buy ginger and take it outside and sell it there. If anyone is found bringing poisonous ginger into the market or selling it on stalls, we will take action against them.
