A Railway Police (GRP) Assistant Sub-Inspector was shot at by three unidentified men near Jagdev Kalan village in Amritsar on Sunday evening. The officer, identified as Sukhchain Singh, sustained a gunshot injury to his left arm after the attackers allegedly opened fire at him.
The bullet reportedly passed through his arm. He was taken to a hospital by his family and is currently stated to be in stable condition.
ASI intercepted while returning home
According to preliminary information, Sukhchain Singh is posted with the GRP at Amritsar railway station. He was returning home on his motorcycle after completing his duty when the incident took place.
At around 7:15 pm, he reached a bridge near Jagdev Khurd village, where three youths riding a motorcycle allegedly intercepted him.
The suspects then reportedly opened fire at the ASI. One of the bullets struck his left arm and passed through the limb. Singh fell from his motorcycle following the shooting, while the attackers fled the spot.
Family members rushed him to hospital
After learning about the incident, Singh's family members reached the location and rushed him to a hospital for treatment. His condition was later reported to be stable.
During the preliminary inquiry, Singh reportedly told police that he had no known enmity with anyone.
At the time of the incident, he was not wearing his police uniform and was reportedly dressed in a T-shirt while returning home after duty.
Police probe underway
Following the shooting, police teams launched an investigation to identify the three unidentified attackers. Officers are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and are also working to establish a possible motive.
The reason behind the firing remains unclear, while further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
