Sh. Kuldeep Singh Chahal, IPS, DIG Patiala Range, stated that Barnala Police, in a joint operation with Counter Intelligence, has busted the gang involved in the firing outside Punjabi singer Gulab Sidhu’s residence.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Simrat Kaur, IPS, AIG Counter Intelligence, Patiala, and Sh. Md Sarfaraz Alam, IPS, SSP Barnala, with the joint efforts of Barnala Police, CIA team and Counter Intelligence team.
During the intervening night of September 12 and 13, 2026, motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at the main gate of Gulab Sidhu’s residence at Village Pharwahi. Foreign-based criminal elements subsequently claimed responsibility for the incident through social media.
In this regard, FIR No. 182 dated 13.09.2026 under Sections 109, 61(2), 191(3) and 190 of the BNS and Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act was registered at Police Station Barnala.
Based on technical and scientific investigation, nine accused were identified and nominated in the case. On September 21, four accused—Gurvinder Singh alias Shaktiman alias Sunny Deol, Gurpreet Singh alias Baba, Ramanpreet Singh and Gaurav Sharma alias Krishan Kumar—were arrested from different locations. An Ertiga car, one .30-bore pistol with two live cartridges and an unregistered motorcycle were recovered from them.
On September 22, during an operation to apprehend the remaining accused, two motorcycle-borne suspects attempted to flee and opened fire at the police party near Pakho Kalan. The police retaliated in self-defence, during which one suspect sustained a gunshot injury to his right leg. The other suspect was also injured after their motorcycle skidded.
Both accused—Gurvinder Singh alias Luddar, identified as one of the main shooters, and Gurpiar Singh alias Guri—were apprehended and admitted to Civil Hospital, Barnala.
Two 9 mm pistols, eight live cartridges, five empty cartridges and the unregistered motorcycle used in the crime were recovered. A separate case has been registered at Police Station Rureke Kalan.
In a coordinated operation with CIA Staff Sangrur also arrested Amritpal Singh alias Ambri and Sunny, who had allegedly conducted reconnaissance of Gulab Sidhu’s residence. One country-made .32-bore pistol and five cartridges were recovered from Amritpal Singh.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were in contact with foreign-based criminal elements and were planning another criminal act. Further investigation is underway, and additional disclosures are expected.
