Gunfire erupts in Jalandhar's Guru Nanak Nagar as power goes out, SUV targeted

They fired four rounds towards his parked Mahindra XUV and two additional rounds into the air before fleeing on their motorcycles.

Gunfire erupted in Jalandhar's Guru Nanak Nagar late Wednesday night, shortly after a power outage plunged the area into darkness. Motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly fired six rounds outside a house, with four bullets aimed at a Mahindra XUV parked outside, while two shots were fired in the air. No injuries were reported in the incident.

According to the vehicle owner, Sahil, around five to six masked men arrived outside his house on motorcycles at approximately 10 pm. Two of them approached the main gate and asked him to move his vehicle, claiming that they were shifting a house and needed space for a goods trolley.

Sahil said the suspicious appearance of the men, whose faces were covered, made him reluctant to move his vehicle. He told them that he would shift it once their goods trolley arrived. Following this, the men left the spot.

Attackers returned within minutes of power outage

Khanna alleged that barely two minutes after the men left, electricity in the locality went off. Taking advantage of the darkness, the motorcycle-borne assailants reportedly returned and opened fire outside his residence.

According to the victim, the attackers hurled abuses while allegedly targeting him. They fired four rounds towards his parked Mahindra XUV and two additional rounds into the air before fleeing on their motorcycles.

At the time of the incident, Khanna was inside the house with his wife. The sudden firing created panic in the locality, while the attackers managed to escape before anyone could stop them.

Police recover six empty cartridges, scan CCTV footage

Following the incident, a police team from Division No. 1, reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Police examined the scene and recovered six empty bullet shells, which were taken into possession as part of the investigation.

The vehicle owner reportedly told the police that he had no previous enmity or personal dispute with anyone, leaving the motive behind the firing unclear.

Police are now examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around Guru Nanak Nagar to identify the accused and trace the motorcycles used in the attack. Officials are also trying to establish the sequence of events and determine whether the initial visit under the pretext of shifting a house was part of a planned attack.

Further investigation is underway, and police are working to identify and apprehend the suspects.
