Gunshots fired at Ammy Virk-linked convoy in Canada, no injuries reported

As many as seven shots were fired at a vehicle travelling in the 2500-block of McCallum Road shortly after 11 pm.

Punjabi singer and actor Ammy Virk reportedly had a narrow escape in Canada after a vehicle linked to his concert convoy came under fire in Abbotsford, British Columbia, late on September 5.

The shooting took place hours after Virk performed at the Rogers Forum. According to Canadian media reports, as many as seven shots were fired at a vehicle travelling in the 2500-block of McCallum Road shortly after 11 pm. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Vehicle Targeted by Dark-Coloured SUV

According to the Abbotsford Police, occupants of a dark-coloured SUV allegedly fired at the vehicle before fleeing the area.

Shortly afterwards, police responding to a separate report of a vehicle fire discovered an SUV fully engulfed in flames in the 2400-block of Sunnyside Place. Investigators are examining whether the burning vehicle is connected to the shooting.

Sources cited in reports said the targeted vehicle was reportedly bullet-proof and was part of the convoy associated with Virk’s concert.

Ammy Virk Reportedly Among Those in Convoy

According to reports, the vehicle was carrying Ammy Virk along with the concert promoter. The promoter is reportedly the son of the owner of a Surrey-based Punjabi radio station that was itself targeted in a similar attack last year.

While reports have suggested that multiple bullets struck the vehicle, police have not publicly confirmed the identity of those inside or released detailed information about the shooting.

Police Call It a Targeted Attack

The Abbotsford Police Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation. Officers are working to determine the motive and establish whether the vehicle fire is directly connected to the shooting.

Sgt Paul Walker said police could not comment on specific investigative details as the probe remains active.

Investigators have appealed to members of the public for information, particularly dashcam footage recorded between 10:45 pm and midnight on September 5 in the area.

Incident Raises Fresh Concerns for Punjabi Entertainment Industry

The shooting comes amid growing concerns over attacks involving members of the Punjabi entertainment community in Canada.

Punjabi artists have increasingly faced security concerns in recent years. The wider backdrop includes the killing of singer Sidhu Moosewala in Punjab in May 2022 and the 2023 shooting outside actor-singer Gippy Grewal’s home in West Vancouver.

However, no group had claimed responsibility for the attack involving Virk’s convoy at the time of filing the report.

Ammy Virk Among Punjabi Cinema’s Biggest Names

Virk is one of the prominent names in Punjabi music and cinema. He has appeared in popular films including Angrej, Qismat and Laung Laachi, while also establishing a strong presence as a singer.

The investigation into the Abbotsford shooting remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to collect evidence and work to determine who was behind the attack and why the convoy was allegedly targeted.
