The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, has directed that government offices across the district will observe a half-day on November 1, 2025, in view of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Utsav. Offices will remain open only until 12:00 noon, after which employees are permitted to join community events and religious programmes.
The circular also notifies residents that a Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) will be taken out in the city on the same day as part of Gurpurab observances. To ensure smooth conduct of the procession and public safety, the district administration has ordered traffic diversions and temporary route closures along the procession path.
Commuters have been asked to avoid the procession route during the event and use alternate roads as directed by traffic police. The administration has advised motorists to plan travel accordingly, allow extra time, and cooperate with traffic personnel and volunteers managing the procession. Emergency services and essential public utilities have been requested to remain on standby and make necessary arrangements so that essential movement is not affected.
The order issued under memo number 239-45/A.E.D. (G), dated 29 October 2025, and signed by the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar applies to all district government bodies including the DC Office, municipal and tehsil offices, and education departments. Departments have also been asked to widely publicize the half-day timing and traffic advisories so citizens and commuters can make alternate arrangements.
This arrangement aims to enable widespread public participation in the Nagar Kirtan and other spiritual events organised to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, while ensuring public safety and minimum disruption to essential services.
