Harmanpreet Kaur was born on March 8, 1989, in the village of Duneke in the Moga district of Punjab. Her father, Harminder Singh Bhullar, is a volleyball and basketball player. Her mother, Satwinder Kaur, is a homemaker.

Harmanpreet Kaur's cricketing talent was uncovered when a boy's cricket match was in progress at Guru Nanak Stadium in Moga. Harman was passing by with her father during that time.
