Four youths were reportedly in the car; one fled the spot
A high-speed car allegedly driven by youths under the influence of alcohol caused a road accident in Rose Park Colony near Gulab Devi Road on Monday. The car reportedly rammed into vehicles parked along the roadside before overturning. No casualties were reported in the incident.
Following the accident, police from Division No. 2 reached the spot and detained the youths travelling in the car. An investigation has been initiated.
Car reportedly hit multiple vehicles
According to eyewitnesses, residents were inside their homes when they heard loud sounds of collisions. When they came outside, they allegedly saw the speeding car crash into a vehicle parked in the lane.
The impact was reportedly so strong that the car became uncontrollable, overturned and subsequently hit another vehicle. Four youths were travelling in the car at the time of the accident. Three remained at the spot after the car overturned, while one allegedly fled immediately after the incident.
The youths reportedly told local residents that they were from the Model House and Bhargav Camp areas.
Couple alleges youths were following them
A couple present at the spot alleged that the same car had been following them from the 120-Footi Road area. According to them, the youths had earlier cut in front of their Activa and were allegedly recording a video while sitting inside the car.
The couple said they followed the car, after which some people outside the lane reportedly stopped the youths. Eyewitnesses alleged that the person driving the car appeared to be heavily intoxicated and lost control of the vehicle.
Police begin investigation
ASI Naresh Kumar of Division No. 2 police station reached the spot with a police team after receiving information through emergency helpline 112 about a car overturning near a gurdwara on Gulab Devi Road.
Police had the overturned vehicle set upright and subsequently took it to the police station. According to the officer, the youths initially claimed that someone was chasing them, which they said led to the accident.
Police are investigating the matter from all angles. The youths are undergoing medical examination, and further legal action will be taken based on the statements of the affected parties and the findings of the investigation.
