High-speed tipper hits two on Jalandhar cantt highway near LPU

Doctor Dies on the Spot, Companion Sustains Serious Injuries

A fatal road accident was reported near Lovely Professional University (LPU) on the Jalandhar Cantt highway late Thursday night after a tipper truck allegedly hit a motorcycle carrying two youths. One of the riders died on the spot, while his companion sustained serious injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Manish, a doctor who reportedly handled knee and hip-related cases. His companion, Deepak, was injured in the accident.

Victims Were Returning From Patient’s Home

According to Deepak, the two were returning from a patient's residence after attending to a dressing case. They were travelling on their side of the road while coming down from the flyover when the accident occurred.

Deepak alleged that the tipper was being driven at high speed. He claimed the truck initially moved slightly to one side before striking their motorcycle.

Truck Allegedly Dragged Riders After Collision

Describing the incident, Deepak alleged that the tipper hit the motorcycle and continued dragging the riders along the road.

He also claimed that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or another substance. This allegation has not been independently verified and will be subject to the police investigation.

Deepak reportedly survived by holding onto a part of the vehicle as the truck moved ahead.

Police Reach Spot, Probe Underway

After receiving information about the accident, police and an ambulance reached the spot. The deceased was taken into custody for the required legal proceedings, while the injured youth was taken for medical treatment.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash, including the speed and movement of the tipper and the allegations made by the injured survivor. Further details are awaited.
