A key meeting was held today between senior officials of Hockey India and Hockey Punjab to review preparations for the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2026, which will be hosted in Punjab from October 27 to November 5.
The meeting was attended by Hockey India Secretary Bhola Nath Singh, Hockey India senior vice-president R.P. Singh, Hockey Punjab President Nitin Kohli and other officials. Various aspects related to the successful conduct of the international tournament were discussed during the meeting.
The Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2026 will begin in Jalandhar on October 27, with league-stage matches scheduled to be played in the city until November 2. The semi-finals will be held on November 4, followed by the final on November 5 in Mohali.
The tournament will feature India, Pakistan, South Korea, Malaysia, China and Japan, bringing some of Asia’s leading hockey teams to Punjab. The event is expected to provide hockey fans in the state an opportunity to witness high-level international hockey on home soil.
During the meeting, discussions focused on preparations at the venues, facilities for participating teams and players, arrangements for spectators, security, coordination among different agencies and other logistical requirements connected with the tournament.
Nitin Kohli said that hosting the Asian Champions Trophy is a matter of pride for Punjab, particularly for Jalandhar, which has a historic association with hockey. He said the tournament would provide an important platform for young hockey players in the region to watch international-level competition and draw inspiration from leading Asian teams.
Kohli said that Hockey India, Hockey Punjab and the Punjab Government are working in coordination to ensure that all necessary arrangements are completed well in time. He added that special attention is being given to the overall experience of players, teams, officials and spectators.
He further said that the staging of major international matches in Jalandhar would further highlight the city’s rich hockey legacy and encourage the younger generation to take greater interest in the sport.
