AAP leader Malwinder Singh Kang has launched a sharp attack on the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), alleging that the authority has become a “loot ka kendra” and accusing officials of targeting poor shopkeepers while allegedly sparing those who pay money.
Kang said he received a call from GMADA Chief Sandeep Rishi regarding the demolition of shops. According to Kang, Rishi told him that if shops had to be demolished, they should either all be removed or none should be spared. When Kang questioned the action, the GMADA chief reportedly said the demolitions were being carried out on the orders of the High Court.
Kang said he subsequently reached the spot and questioned the officials over the action.
‘I Abused GMADA Chief Sandeep Rishi’
Kang openly stated that he had a heated exchange with Sandeep Rishi, Chief Administrator of GMADA, and said that he abused him during a conversation the previous night.
Kang claimed he told Rishi that if he wanted to continue functioning in the area, he would have to ensure that GMADA operates legally and follows the law.
‘Those Who Give Money Are Spared’
Kang alleged that people who pay money to officials are spared, while poor shopkeepers and labourers trying to earn a livelihood are targeted.
He said these people are working to feed their families, yet their shops are demolished, while those with money and influence allegedly escape action.
Calling GMADA a “loot ka kendra,” Kang demanded an investigation into the allegations and the functioning of officials involved in the demolition drive.
Appeals to CM Bhagwant Mann
Speaking through the media, Kang said he wanted to convey a message to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann that such “forceful” behaviour must stop.
He said that while the government is taking steps for public welfare, alleged corruption and arbitrary action by officials can undermine those efforts.
Demands Immediate Transfer of Clerical Staff
Kang also demanded the immediate transfer of clerical-level officials, alleging that corruption within the system needs to be addressed.
He called for an investigation against the officials concerned and stressed that government authorities must function according to the law rather than allegedly acting selectively against people who lack influence or financial resources.
The allegations were made by Kang in connection with the demolition of shops. The specific claims regarding bribery, selective enforcement and official misconduct would require investigation and verification by the concerned authorities.
