Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has initiated an unprecedented campaign to strengthen the state’s industrial sector through Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
MSMEs are classified based on size, capital investment, and turnover, enabling the government to identify small and medium-scale industries. The Mann government’s pro-entrepreneur policies and clear vision have made Punjab an attractive investment destination while boosting job creation and economic self-reliance. These efforts have placed Punjab on a fast and inclusive growth trajectory.
The results are evident. Between March 2022 and March 2025, 10,32,682 new small industries were registered in Punjab—a historic achievement demonstrating improved business confidence and the government’s effective policies.
These industries have attracted a total investment of ₹24,806.91755 crore, fueling the purchase of new machinery, factory construction, and employment generation, significantly strengthening Punjab’s economy.
A remarkable feature of this growth is women’s participation. Out of the total, 2,55,832 industries are women-owned, highlighting the Mann government’s focus on women empowerment. Meanwhile, 7,73,310 industries are owned by men, showing balanced growth across all sectors.
Breaking it down by sector:
Manufacturing: 2,57,670 new units established with an investment of ₹9,009 crore, of which 2,54,764 are Micro industries, indicating strong grassroots-level entrepreneurship.
Services: 3,51,467 new units, including shops, transport, hotels, and computer repair businesses, with an investment of ₹7,135 crore, of which 3,50,454 are Micro units, reflecting rapid expansion in small service providers.
Trading: The largest number, 4,23,545 new ventures, attracted ₹8,663 crore, including 4,17,992 Micro traders, underlining Punjab’s rise as a commercial hub in North India.
The Mann government is planning for future growth. On February 22, 2024, it approved the formation of an “MSME Wing”, a dedicated office to support small industries. This wing will facilitate access to loans, adoption of new technology, and marketing opportunities both domestically and internationally, reflecting the long-term vision of the Bhagwant Singh Mann government.
