Businessman and social media personality Rakesh Trehan, popularly known as Raja D King, has clarified his plan for the proposed ‘iPhone Langar’ after questions were raised over the event and its planned gathering.
Trehan had earlier announced the giveaway for September 22, with women above the age of 18 from Chandigarh and Mohali eligible to participate. According to the announcement, winners were to receive iPhone 17 or newer models.
Clarification after administration raises objections
As per reports, the Chandigarh administration had stopped the proposed ‘iPhone Langar’, with authorities raising objections to the planned gathering.
Following the development, Trehan has now clarified that participants will not need to come to any location for the giveaway. He said the process would instead be conducted through a lucky draw, with 10 winners to be selected.
According to Trehan, the selected winners will not be required to assemble at a venue, as the iPhones will be delivered directly to their respective homes.
No large gathering, says Trehan
Trehan further said that he would not do anything that could provide authorities with a reason to object to the event. He maintained that the giveaway would be organised in a manner that does not result in a large gathering or create inconvenience for the public.
The clarification changes the format of the proposed event from a physical gathering to a home-delivery-based giveaway, according to Trehan's statement.
From cash and food langars to iPhone giveaway
Raja Di King has previously attracted attention on social media for organising unusual ‘langar’ events. These have included cash, burgers and cold drinks, which were promoted as giveaways for the public.
He had also announced a petrol langar, although that plan was later not permitted.
The latest iPhone giveaway similarly generated considerable attention because of the proposed prizes and the participation conditions announced by Trehan.
What happens next?
With Trehan now saying that 10 winners will be selected through a lucky draw and receive the phones at home, the proposed event is set to follow a different format from the one initially announced.
The clarification also comes amid the reported objections from the Chandigarh administration regarding the gathering. The exact process for the lucky draw and delivery of the phones will determine how the revised giveaway is ultimately conducted.
