Vishwakarma Day, celebrates Lord Vishwakarma, the celestial craftsman and architect, who is worshiped by engineers, artisans, carpenters, and factory workers. The festival is a testament to him being the creator of and designer of the world, where the workers worship their machinery and tools to obtain their blessings for prosperity and safety in their line of work.
Since it is not a public holiday, government employees and individuals engaged in mechanical and craftsmanship work shall observe this day by cleaning and decorating their tools before performing prayers and rituals. The traditional observance symbolizes respect towards the instruments of their labor, followed by offerings and distribution of prasad.
The state of West Bengal has issued a notification declaring the September 17th as a holiday in the state. But there is no such notification is issued by the Punjab government yet.
Schools in Punjab shall also remain open on 17th September on Vishwakarma day.
Although the schools and government offices shall remain closed on 22nd September that is Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti.
The Vishwakarma Day serves as a reminder of the contributions of skilled workers in building and shaping society, and it holds great cultural and religious significance particularly in industrial regions of the state.
