Police have registered a case against Ward-84 Congress councilor Neeraj Jassal also known as ‘Kalu’ following an alleged assault incident reported earlier this month and the case has been filed at Police Station Division No. 1 based on a complaint by a local resident.
According to police information the incident took place on the night of March 7 during a wedding function in Ravidas Nagar. The complainant Puneesh alias Honey Virdee stated that a dispute broke out at the venue during which the councilor allegedly abused him and later attacked him.
In his statement to the police the complainant alleged that Jassal slapped him and then took out his licensed revolver and he further claimed that the councilor hit him on the forehead and near the nose with the butt of the revolver causing serious injuries and heavy bleeding following which he was taken to Civil Hospital Jalandhar where he received stitches and underwent medical examination.
Police records including the Medico-Legal Report (MLR) confirm that the victim sustained two injuries caused by a blunt object and doctors described the injuries as “simple” in nature though one was located on the head and required further examination through a CT scan. Based on the complaint and medical report police have registered a case under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 30 of the Arms Act.
Officials said that preliminary inquiry and witness statements support the allegation that an assault took place and Police teams are currently conducting raids to arrest the accused councilor.
