A Punjab Police constable posted with the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has been taken into custody after a video allegedly showing him in an intoxicated state went viral on social media. The incident reportedly took place in Hamira village in Kapurthala district, where locals stopped the constable after noticing his condition and informed the police.
Identification of the accused
The constable has been identified as Jatinderpal. In the viral video, he appears unable to walk properly and is seen stumbling on the road. One of his shoes had come off, and he reportedly struggled to put it back on. The footage also shows him repeatedly saying, "Galti ho gayi sahab, chhod do" ("I made a mistake, sir. Please let me go"), while pleading with the people present at the spot.

According to eyewitnesses, the constable also suffered an injury to one of his hands after allegedly falling, and blood could be seen on his hand. During the incident, locals claimed they recovered a syringe from near him, raising suspicion that he may have consumed intoxicating substances. Police investigation
Following the incident, a police team reached the spot and took the constable into custody. Confirming the development, SP (Detective) Harinder Singh said the matter came to the notice of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kapurthala, through the viral video. Acting on the SSP's directions, Subhanpur Police immediately detained the constable.
The police officer said a dop test of the constable has been initiated to determine whether he was under the influence of narcotics or any intoxicating substance at the time of the incident. Authorities are also verifying the claims made in the viral video regarding the recovery of a syringe from the spot.

SP Harinder Singh stated that it would be premature to conclude whether the constable had consumed drugs or whether the syringe merely happened to be lying nearby. He said the investigation is being conducted from every possible angle, and appropriate legal as well as departmental action will be taken once the dop test report is received. Police have assured that the matter will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
