Tragic Accident at Factory in Noorpur
A tragic workplace accident in Noorpur village under Maqsudan police station in Jalandhar has claimed the life of a 54-year-old woman worker after her scarf reportedly got caught in a machine while she was working.
The incident was so severe that the woman suffered fatal injuries and died at the spot. The deceased has been identified as Archana Kumari, who had reportedly been working at the factory for around three months.
Scarf Gets Caught in Machine
According to workers present at the factory, Archana was operating a machine when her scarf became entangled in it. The machine reportedly pulled her towards it along with the scarf, resulting in the fatal accident.
Workers immediately switched off the machine, but by then Archana had suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The incident triggered panic among the workers inside the factory. Factory staff subsequently informed the police about the accident.
Family Alleges Lack of Safety Measures
Archana's husband, Durganand Das, has alleged that workers at the factory were working without proper safety equipment.
He claimed that his wife had been employed at Mahindra Enterprises for around three months and that adequate safety measures were allegedly not being provided to workers.
The family has also alleged that an attempt was made to reach a settlement following the incident. According to the husband, the family was allegedly told that if they did not agree to a settlement, an FIR would be registered.
These allegations are from the victim's family and would require verification through the ongoing investigation.
Family Struggling After Her Death
The death has left Archana's family devastated. Her husband was reportedly inconsolable following the incident.
The couple had three children. Their daughter is married and lives in Delhi, while their two sons include one who also works at a factory.
According to her husband, financial difficulties and debt had forced Archana to take up the job three months ago. He said the family now has no immediate financial support and has appealed to the administration for justice.
Police Begin Investigation
Following the incident, ASI Bhupinder Singh from Maqsudan police station reached the factory along with a police team and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Police said statements of workers present at the factory have been recorded and Archana's family members have been informed.
According to the police, further action will be taken based on the statements of the deceased woman's family.
Questions Over Workplace Safety
The incident has once again raised concerns over workplace safety and the measures provided to factory workers.
The family's allegations regarding the absence of safety equipment will now be a key aspect of the investigation. Authorities will have to establish how the accident occurred, whether required safety precautions were in place and whether any negligence contributed to the woman's death.
As the investigation continues, Archana's family is seeking justice and accountability over the tragic loss.
