The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Jalandhar Zonal Office, has attached assets worth ₹187.13 crore as part of its investigation into a major cyber fraud and money laundering network allegedly operated through an illegal call centre in Jalandhar. The probe revealed that the accused targeted foreign nationals, particularly US citizens, by impersonating technical support executives and officials from government agencies to defraud them of millions of rupees.
What does the attached assets include?
The attached assets include luxury flats, villas and farmhouses located in Haryana, Delhi and Goa. The action has been taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The investigation was initiated based on information shared by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2023.
Information about the call centre
According to the ED, an illegal call centre operating under the name "Digicomps – The Future of Digital" was being run from Jalandhar. Around 36 employees worked at the facility, including Jigar Ahmad, Yash Khurana, Inderjeet Singh Bhali and Nikhil Sharma. Investigators allege that they operated under the directions of Jani alias Jani Tyagi, Dakshay Sethi and Gaurav Verma, who orchestrated the fraud by contacting foreign victims under the guise of providing technical support.
Allegations on the accused
The accused allegedly posed as representatives of US government agencies, particularly the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and threatened victims with legal action unless they complied. Victims were then persuaded to share sensitive banking and financial information, enabling the accused to siphon off large sums of money.
Revelations from further developments in the case
The ED's investigation further revealed that the proceeds of crime were first routed through cryptocurrency wallets before being laundered through shell companies. The funds were subsequently used to purchase high-value real estate in Haryana, Delhi and Goa in an attempt to legitimise the illicit earnings. Based on these findings, the agency has provisionally attached assets worth ₹187.13 crore.
Earlier searches by ED
Earlier this year, in January and February 2026, the ED conducted simultaneous searches at 13 locations across Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. During the raids, investigators recovered digital devices, incriminating documents and cash amounting to ₹34 lakh. The agency also seized records that allegedly establish a direct link between the proceeds of cyber fraud and investments in immovable properties.
Alleged individuals involved
The investigation has identified the alleged involvement of several individuals, including Jani alias Jani Tyagi, Dakshay Sethi, Raghav, Satish, Nikhil Verma, Gaurav Verma and Gautam Dangra. According to the ED, the accused laundered crores of rupees earned through cyber fraud by investing them in properties across multiple states.
Next action likely
The ED said the investigation is ongoing and further action is likely as it continues to identify additional individuals connected to the network. The agency also plans to trace and examine other assets allegedly acquired using the proceeds of crime.
