The India Meteorological Department (IMD) of Chandigarh unit on Thursday issued a red alert for multiple districts of Punjab. The weather department has issued red alert in Punjab for 'very dense fog at many places' in the state. Not only this, IMD has also predicted 3-days of light rainfall in Punjab starting from December 20 to December 22.
Notably, Jalandhar on Thursday morning witnessed a thick blanket of fog. Visibility in the region also dropped sharply. It can be understood by the fact that due to dense fog, multiple vehicles collided at Jalandhar-Jammu National Highway.
December 18- on red alert- Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mohali. Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala
on orange alert- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Sangrur, Barnala, Mansa, Bathinda, and Moga
on yellow alert- Ferozepur, Faridkot, Muktasar, and Fazilka
December 19- on orange alert- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Moga, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Sangurur, and Barnala.
on yellow alert- Ferozepur, Faridkot, Bathinda, Mansa, Muktasar, and Fazilka
December 20- on yellow alert- Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Sangrur
As per an official release issued by IMD Chandigarh, three days of light rainfall is also predicted at isolated places in Punjab from December 20 to December 22.
IMD mentions that western disturbance likely to affect northern parts of India from December 20, 2025. Under its influence, rainfall activity is likely over northern parts of Punjab. Thereafter, mainly dry weather very likely to prevail over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.
