Jalandhar Municipal Corporation’s upcoming budget for 2026-27 has drawn attention over a proposal to purchase a Mahindra Thar for official use, with sources indicating that the vehicle is intended for the Municipal Commissioner at an estimated cost of around ₹22.35 lakh and the vehicle is expected to be used for field inspections and monitoring of ongoing development works across the city.
The proposal has been included in the administrative plan under the budget that will be presented on March 30 at the Red Cross Building and officials say the idea behind the purchase is to support frequent site visits and improve supervision of civic projects such as roads, sewerage work, sanitation drives and park maintenance.
While the overall Municipal Corporation budget covers multiple development and administrative allocations including infrastructure and public services the Thar proposal has become a key point of discussion due to its choice of vehicle type and official use requirements. The final approval will depend on the budget meeting and subsequent administrative clearances.
The development has sparked conversations within MC circles with many linking the move to specific administrative preferences even as no official name has been disclosed.
