Police and the Drug Inspector’s team raided Prabhjot Medical Store, formerly known as Anand Medical Store, near Basti Bawa Khel Adda in Jalandhar on Tuesday morning, reportedly recovering more than 100 intoxicating pills. The operation was conducted as part of the Punjab government’s ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign against drug abuse and illegal drug sales.
According to ACP Aatish Bhatia, the police detained medical store owner Anand and his son during the operation. The team also conducted a search at the owner’s residence as part of the investigation.
Police Send Decoy Customer Before Raid
ACP Ataish Bhatia said the police received information about the alleged sale of intoxicating pills at a medical store in the Basti Bawa Khel area during a meeting related to the anti-drug campaign.
To verify the information, the police allegedly sent a person posing as a customer to purchase medicines from the shop. According to the ACP, the individual purchased medicines worth ₹1,000 that were suspected to be intoxicating drugs.
Following this alleged purchase, police teams from Basti Bawa Khel and Division No. 5 police stations, along with Drug Inspector and his team, conducted a raid at the premises.
More Than 100 Pills Recovered
During the inspection, officials reportedly found that intoxicating pills were being removed from their original blister strips and placed in another container for sale as loose tablets.
The ACP said more than 100 intoxicating pills had been recovered during the operation. The Drug Inspector’s team was involved in examining and recovering the medicines, while police were also conducting searches at other locations linked to the case.
The specific names and quantities of the recovered medicines have not been independently confirmed in the available information.
Previous Raid and Proposed Licence Cancellation
According to ACP Bhatia, the medical store had allegedly been raided previously, and the owner had been sent to jail. Police claimed that he resumed selling intoxicating pills after being released.
The ACP further said that the police would write to the Drug Inspector’s team to initiate proceedings for cancellation of the store’s drug licence. Authorities also indicated that steps would be taken to seal the premises.
Investigation Underway
According to the information provided by the police, an FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Anand has been detained in connection with the case.
Further details regarding the exact substances recovered, the applicable NDPS provisions and the outcome of the proposed licensing action remain to be confirmed. The allegations are subject to investigation, and further action will depend on the findings of the authorities.
