A dispute broke out at a petrol pump on 120 Feet Road after a customer alleged that the fuel gauge of his car failed to register any increase despite refuelling the vehicle twice with petrol worth ₹300 each. The incident escalated into a heated confrontation when the man's brother, a municipal councillor, arrived at the petrol pump along with his supporters. Police later intervened to defuse the situation.
Statements by the councillor
According to the councillor, his brother had visited the petrol pump to refill his car. After purchasing petrol worth ₹300, he noticed that the vehicle's fuel gauge did not move. Believing it to be an anomaly, he refuelled the car again with another ₹300 worth of petrol. However, the fuel gauge still showed no noticeable increase.
Repeated raise of the issue
The customer reportedly raised the issue with the petrol pump staff, alleging a possible discrepancy in fuel dispensing. The councillor claimed that instead of addressing the concern, the staff allegedly behaved rudely and refused to listen to his brother's complaint. After being informed about the incident, the councillor reached the petrol pump with his supporters to seek an explanation.
Misbehaviour with the public
He further alleged that a woman present at the petrol pump also misbehaved with him, following which the argument intensified and created a tense atmosphere. Both sides eventually informed the police. The women present at the pump allegedly abused the councillor and his sisters and tried to hit them.
Inspection of the petrol dispensing machine
The councillor has urged the authorities to inspect the petrol dispensing machine to verify whether it is functioning correctly and to ensure that consumers are not being cheated. He said a thorough technical inspection would help establish the facts and restore public confidence.
Investigation by the police
Responding to the incident, Station House Officer (SHO) Yadvinder Singh of Police Station Division No. 5 said the police received information through the Control Room regarding a disturbance at the petrol pump. A police team immediately reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Examination of the machine
The SHO said that technical experts would be called to examine the petrol dispensing machine to determine whether there was any malfunction or irregularity. He added that appropriate legal action would be taken after recording statements from the concerned parties and based on the findings of the inspection.
