Jalandhar: police encounter in Drolli Kalan, two murder accused injured

Accused fired at police while retrieving weapons; both shot in legs, pistols and bike recovered

S. Harvinder Singh Virk, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar Rural, informed that in connection with the murder incident that occurred on January 16, 2026 near Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, in which Kesar Dhami was shot dead, a csse FIR no 08 dated 16.01.2026 u/s 103, 3(5)BNS, 25-54-59 Arms ACT, was registered at Police Station Adampur, and multiple police teams were constituted by SSP Jalandhar Rural to carry out the investigation.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of DSP Sub-Division Adampur, Mr. Rajiv Kumar, with the involvement of DSP (Detective) Inderjit Singh Saini, Inspector Ravinderpal Singh, SHO Adampur, and Inspector Pushp Bali, In-charge CIA Staff, along with specially constituted teams.

The SSP stated that on January 18, 2026, the police received secret information that after committing the murder, the accused had concealed their weapons near a motor (pump) close to Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, and were likely to arrive there to retrieve them. Acting promptly on this information, police teams cordoned off the area and launched a discreet operation.

When the police party—including ASI Diya Chand (PS Adampur), ASI Mandeep (CIA), Constable Soni Kumar, Driver Constable Amandeep Singh, and PHG Neena Rani—was approaching the spot from the Drolli side, the accused reached the location, retrieved the hidden weapons, and attempted to flee. When the police attempted to stop them, the accused opened fire on the police party.

Out of the three shots fired by the accused, one bullet struck the right side of the Scorpio vehicle of Adampur Police Station, one hit a tree, and one missed the target. In self-defence and to apprehend the accused, the police retaliated, during which both accused sustained gunshot injuries to their legs. They were overpowered and immediately shifted to the hospital for medical treatment.

The apprehended accused have been identified as Chandra Shekhar, resident of Village Davida Ahrana, and Jaspal Singh, resident of Village Drolli Kalan. From their possession, the police recovered two pistols (.32 bore), 03 live cartridges, 03 empty shells, and the motorcycle used in the commission of the crime.

Further recoveries are likely. The criminal antecedents of the accused are being verified, and further legal proceedings in the case are underway.
