Two Phillaur residents held in anti-drug crackdown
Jalandhar Police have arrested two alleged drug smugglers and recovered 5 kg of heroin along with ₹1.50 lakh in drug money as part of the ongoing crackdown against narcotics.
The arrested accused have been identified as Dilpreet Singh and Kamaldeep Singh, both residents of Phillaur.
Police Commissioner Satinder Singh said the arrests were made by the CIA staff team following a tip-off that two alleged smugglers were arriving in the city to supply narcotics.
2.5 kg heroin recovered from each accused
Acting on the information, the police laid a trap near Patwari Dhaba at Kot Kalan Chowk, where the two accused were allegedly intercepted.
During the search, police recovered 2.5 kg of heroin and ₹80,000 in drug money from Dilpreet Singh. Another 2.5 kg of heroin and ₹70,000 in drug money was recovered from Kamaldeep Singh.
Police said the accused had allegedly arrived to supply the consignment and were waiting for customers.
Two more accused named
According to police, two other persons have also been named in the case. Teams are conducting raids at their suspected locations, but the accused are reportedly absconding.
The police also conducted searches at their residences and said efforts are underway to arrest them soon.
Alleged repeat involvement in drug supply
During preliminary questioning, the arrested accused allegedly revealed that they had supplied drugs in the past and had now arrived with another consignment.
Police said the accused were allegedly using a car for the operation but had parked it at a distance from the spot. The vehicle, along with its driver, has also been traced, according to the police.
NDPS Act case registered
A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act at Cantonment Police Station.
The police are preparing to produce the arrested accused before a court and seek their remand. During interrogation, investigators are expected to trace their wider drug-smuggling network, including their suppliers and distribution links.
