Jalandhar is likely to witness an active spell of monsoon rainfall over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, issuing a heavy rainfall warning for July 30 and July 31. The forecast indicates that the city could experience heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, prompting residents to remain cautious while travelling.
Heavy rain in Jalandhar
According to the latest district-wise weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, July 30 (Thursday) and July 31 (Friday) have been placed under a heavy rainfall warning for Jalandhar and several other districts of Punjab. During this period, isolated heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are expected, increasing the possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic congestion and temporary disruption of normal life.
Reduction in intensity of rain
The IMD has forecast that from August 1 (Saturday), the intensity of rainfall is expected to reduce, with light to moderate rain likely at a few places across Jalandhar and neighbouring districts. However, the monsoon is expected to remain active. On August 2 (Sunday) and August 3 (Monday), rainfall activity is likely to become more widespread, with light to moderate rain expected at many places across Punjab, accompanied by cloudy skies and occasional thunderstorms.
Temperature to remain below the average
The weather office has also indicated that daytime temperatures in Jalandhar are likely to remain below the seasonal average during this period, with the maximum temperature hovering around 29°C to 30°C, while minimum temperatures are expected to stay between 25°C and 26°C. The continued rainfall is expected to provide relief from humid conditions but may also lead to slippery roads and reduced visibility during intense showers.

The active monsoon spell is expected to benefit agriculture across the region, especially paddy cultivation, but residents have been advised to avoid waterlogged roads, drive carefully during heavy rain and stay updated with official IMD advisories, particularly during thunderstorm activity.
