A 28-year-old man was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Chauhan Colony, which falls under the jurisdiction of Police Station Division No. 5 in Jalandhar The police was informed at 6:00 AM in the morning on 29 June i.e. Monday. After receiving information police reported at the moment in no time. While police has launched an investigation into the incident, the deceased's family has alleged that he was murdered and has demanded strict action against the suspected accused.
Identification of the victim
The deceased has been identified as Sonu, a resident of the area. He was married and is survived by his wife and a young child. According to family members, Sonu worked as a tailor and used to return home every evening at around 5:30 pm after finishing work. However, on the day of the incident, he failed to return home, prompting concern among his family. According to the family, Sonu's mobile phone also became unreachable, and despite searching for him throughout the night, they were unable to trace his whereabouts. The following morning, police received information about a body lying in Gali No. 5 of Chauhan Colony. A police team immediately rushed to the spot, secured the area, and took possession of the body before sending it for post-mortem examination.
Alleges by the family
The police later informed Sonu's family, who reached the spot to identify the deceased. The victim's mother broke down after seeing her son's body and alleged that his death was not accidental. She claimed that Sonu had ongoing disputes with a local resident identified as Bitte, who reportedly lives in Gali No. 6, Tej Mohan Nagar. Speaking to the media, the grieving mother alleged that the suspect had assaulted her son on multiple occasions in the past. She further claimed that the accused had allegedly snatched Sonu's mobile phone several times and had repeatedly threatened him. Based on these previous incidents, she expressed suspicion that the same individual was responsible for her son's death.
Identity of the accused
In a conversation with ACP Aatish Bhatia, the identity of the accused was informed. Both the accused, Mandeep Singh and his wife have been arrested by the police. It was found that Mandeep Singh already has past criminal reports. 3 FIR’s under Mandeeps’s name have been filed in the earlier years. The accused has also been in jail for 2 years. Both the accused are the resident of the neighboring street.
Findings from the CCTV footage
It was found that the CCTV footages from nearby were checked. In the footage, Mandeep and his wife were clearly seen bringing the dead body of the deceased and throwing it away.
Actions against the accused
The victim's family has demanded a fair and impartial investigation, urging the authorities to identify the exact circumstances that led to Sonu's death and take strict legal action if foul play is established. They have appealed to the administration to ensure justice for the deceased and his family. Police officials remained at the scene to record statements from the victim's relatives and other potential witnesses. Officers stated that the cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report and forensic examination are completed. They added that all allegations made by the family are being taken into consideration and will be thoroughly verified during the course of the investigation. Officials said further legal action will be initiated based on the evidence collected, witness statements, and medical findings. At present, the investigation is ongoing, and police have not ruled out any angle in the case.
