Jalandhar Warriors put up a competitive 187 after a strong batting effort led by captain Prabhsimran Singh, but Fazilka Falcons produced a dominant chase to register an eight-wicket victory in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Monday.
Jalandhar had enough runs on the board to put pressure on Fazilka, but the Falcons' response turned the contest decisively in their favour. Vihaan Malhotra's unbeaten 103 off 52 balls, supported by Sanvir Singh's unbeaten 51 off 29, took Fazilka to 192/2 in 17.4 overs.
Prabhsimran Leads Jalandhar's Fightback
Fazilka won the toss and opted to bowl, and Jalandhar were immediately under pressure after losing two early wickets.
However, captain and wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh steadied the innings and launched a counter-attack. He combined with Anmol Malhotra to add 74 runs for the third wicket, giving Jalandhar the platform they needed.
Anmol contributed a useful 29 off 22 balls, while Prabhsimran continued to attack the Fazilka bowling attack.
The Jalandhar captain eventually departed after making an impressive 76 off 42 balls, but his innings had already given the Warriors momentum.
Sukhdeep Bajwa Provides Late Boost
Jalandhar's lower order also made an important contribution.
Sukhdeep Bajwa scored 23 off just 12 balls, helping the Warriors push their total towards the 190-run mark.
Jalandhar were eventually bowled out for 187 in 19.4 overs — a total that appeared competitive given the early setbacks and the pressure of losing wickets at regular intervals.
Fazilka Suffer Early Setback
The Falcons' chase did not begin smoothly either.
Jaiveer Bhinder was dismissed for a duck, leaving Fazilka with an early setback while chasing 188.
But that proved to be only a brief moment of concern.
Vihaan Malhotra Changes the Game
Vihaan Malhotra quickly took control of the chase and found an effective partner in Anshul Chaudhary.
The pair launched an aggressive counter-attack, putting the Jalandhar bowlers under pressure and adding 100 runs in just eight overs. Chaudhary eventually departed after scoring a brisk 36 off 20 balls, but by then Fazilka had gained a significant advantage.
Sanvir Joins Vihaan to Finish the Job
With the chase firmly in control, Sanvir Singh joined Malhotra at the crease.
The duo then took the game away from Jalandhar, adding an unbeaten 91-run partnership for the third wicket.
Sanvir finished with 51 not out from 29 balls, while Malhotra remained unbeaten on 103 from 52 balls.
Malhotra completed his century in the 18th over before sealing the victory with a six off Aryan Yadav.
Jalandhar's Bowling Shows Promise, But Can't Contain the Chase
While Fazilka's batting ultimately dominated the second innings, Jalandhar did have some positive moments with the ball.
Sukhdeep Bajwa claimed one wicket, while Emanjot Singh Chahal also struck during the chase. Fazilka's early wicket showed that the Warriors were capable of creating pressure, but the Malhotra-Chaudhary partnership quickly shifted the momentum.
Fazilka's bowlers had also played their part earlier. Navpreet Singh picked up three wickets, while Lakshay Kansal conceded only eight runs in his two overs and took one wicket.
Two Strong Batting Performances, One Decisive Chase
For Jalandhar, Prabhsimran's 76 and the team's 187 showed that the Warriors were capable of posting a challenging total despite losing early wickets.
For Fazilka, however, the response was even more emphatic. Malhotra's century and Sanvir's half-century ensured that the Falcons did not allow the target to become a pressure situation.
