The much-awaited Jullundur Gymkhana Club elections witnessed a high-energy atmosphere today as members turned up in significant numbers to cast their votes.
According to the latest figures available, more than 2,000 members had cast their votes, taking the turnout beyond the 50% mark. The substantial participation highlighted the keen interest among members in the election and the future leadership of the prestigious club.
The True Scoop team was present on the ground throughout the polling process, capturing the election-day atmosphere as members arrived at the club. The approach roads and surrounding areas carried a visible election buzz, with campaign pamphlets and supporters engaging with voters.
Members spoke about their expectations from the next leadership, with issues including better facilities, development of the club, improved management and a stronger focus on members’ interests featuring prominently in conversations.
The election has emerged as a closely watched contest between the Achievers Group and the Progressive Group, with candidates competing for key positions as well as Executive Member seats.
On the ground, visible support was witnessed for Achievers Group candidates Amit Kukreja, Dheeraj Seth and Jubin Shangari. Several members openly expressed their preference for Kukreja, while some members claimed that he was in a strong position and had possibly moved close to victory.
However, these remain members’ assessments and on-ground claims, and do not represent the official election outcome. The final result will depend entirely on the counting of votes.
On the ground, massive support was visible for Amit Kukreja, with a number of members openly expressing their support for him. Some senior members even went a step further, claiming that Kukreja had almost secured victory, although the final result would ultimately be decided through the counting process.
Strong on-ground support was also visible for Dheeraj Seth and Jubin Shangari, as members interacted with the candidates and shared their preferences for the election.
The election atmosphere remained charged throughout the day, with candidates and their supporters engaging with members arriving at the club. The turnout of 2,000+ voters, representing more than half of the electorate, underlined the level of interest surrounding this year’s Gymkhana elections.
