Just home from rehab, 26-year-old dies of drug overdose in Amritsar

The deceased youth's father says that the government has been making tall claims about drugs being eradicated from state however that is far from reality.

Another young life in Punjab has been lost to the prevailing drug menace in the state. This time a son of a policeman has fallen prey to this peril. The incident is being reported from Guru Nanakpura, that falls under the jurisdiction of Kot Khalsa Police Station in Amritsar. The deceased youth has been identified as Akash, son of Ashok who a Home Guard in police. As per the information, the father had admitted his son to the drug-deaddiction center many times.

Just returned from rehab the night before

The father explains the youth was brought home at night and the following morning he went with a friend and injected drugs and passed away on the spot. His friends fled from the scene.

Now, the family members of the deceased have kept the youth’s body on road and protesting against the Punjab government. The father of the deceased youth, Ashok Saini, while talking to the media said that his son was 26-year-old B. Sc. graduate and was a football player. Unfortunately, he fell prey to drugs and started taking them daily which is why he was admitted to a drug rehabilitation center many times. He explains it was just last night that he was brought home and the very next morning he lost his life due to overdose.   

"Leave Punjab to save your kids," claims the father 

The grieving father claims that drugs are being sold in Kot Khalsa area of Amritsar, despite all this no appropriate action is being taken. He even claims that if you want to save your children, leave Punjab or bring Jogi or Amritpal Singh, because under this government the lives of children are being ruined. He adds that the government has been making tall claims about drugs being eradicated from the state however that is far from the reality and drugs are readily available.   

Talking to the media about the case, Police Officer Har Sandeep Singh from Islamabad Police Station has confirmed the death and assured that action would be taken based on statements given by the family members.
