Know which day this week will be the hottest as Punjab temperature may cross 45°C

Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Chandigarh likely to remain under severe heatwave conditions throughout the week

Punjab is set to witness one of the harshest heatwaves of the season as temperatures across major cities are expected to remain dangerously high throughout the week. According to the latest weather forecasts, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Chandigarh are likely to experience continuous heatwave conditions with temperatures hovering between 43°C and 45°C under clear sunny skies and dry atmospheric conditions.

Weather experts have warned that the absence of rainfall, continuous hot winds and strong solar radiation are contributing to the rapid rise in temperatures across North India. The ongoing weather pattern is expected to push daytime temperatures well above normal levels, increasing discomfort for residents across Punjab and Chandigarh.

Amritsar is likely to remain among the hottest cities during the week. Forecasts indicate that the city may witness temperatures around 43°C on Monday before touching nearly 44°C from Tuesday onwards. The weather is expected to remain dry throughout the week with bright sunshine dominating daytime hours. Night temperatures are also expected to stay high between 24°C and 25°C, reducing chances of relief even after sunset. According to the forecast, next Wednesday could emerge as the hottest day in Amritsar with temperatures expected to touch nearly 45°C.

Jalandhar is also expected to remain under severe heatwave conditions throughout the week. Monday is likely to witness temperatures close to 43°C, while Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday may record nearly 44°C during daytime hours. The city is expected to witness continuous dry weather with strong sunlight and warm winds making outdoor conditions extremely uncomfortable. Weather projections suggest that the temperature in Jalandhar may rise to nearly 45°C during the middle of next week if current conditions continue.

Ludhiana is expected to face one of the most intense heat spells among Punjab’s major cities. Forecast data indicates that the industrial city may remain around 43°C to 44°C for most of the week. On Saturday, temperatures in Ludhiana are expected to touch nearly 45°C, making it one of the hottest days recorded this season. The city is likely to continue experiencing hot winds and dry conditions without any immediate sign of rainfall or cloud cover. Experts believe the urban heat effect and heavy industrial activity may further increase discomfort levels in Ludhiana during afternoon hours.

Chandigarh is also expected to witness severe summer conditions throughout the week. Temperatures in the city are likely to remain between 42°C and 44°C with continuous sunny weather dominating the forecast. The Union Territory is expected to experience strong heatwave conditions especially during afternoon hours when hot winds are likely to intensify. Residents have already started witnessing a sharp rise in the use of air-conditioners and cooling appliances due to increasing temperatures.

The weather department has advised people across Punjab and Chandigarh to remain cautious as prolonged exposure to such extreme temperatures may lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Health experts have especially warned elderly people, children and patients suffering from heart, kidney and respiratory problems to avoid direct sunlight during peak daytime hours.

Doctors have recommended that residents drink plenty of water, consume light meals and wear loose cotton clothing during the ongoing heatwave. People working outdoors, including labourers, delivery workers, traffic police personnel and street vendors, are considered most vulnerable during such extreme weather conditions.

The ongoing heatwave is also expected to increase pressure on electricity infrastructure across Punjab and Chandigarh. Officials are monitoring rising power demand as the continuous use of cooling appliances is likely to result in record electricity consumption during the coming days.

Environmental experts believe that such recurring heatwaves are becoming more frequent due to changing climate conditions across the region. Over the past few years, Punjab and Chandigarh have witnessed prolonged summer spells with temperatures remaining above normal for extended periods. Experts warn that if current weather patterns continue, such extreme heat conditions could become more common in future summers.

According to the latest forecasts, there are currently no strong signs of rainfall or western disturbances that could bring immediate relief to the region. Weather experts believe that temperatures may continue to remain above normal in the coming week as well, with several parts of Punjab likely to witness severe heatwave conditions for a longer duration.
