The Nakodar police successfully foils a planned firing incident and apprehends two accused involved in an extortion and firing case linked to threats from foreign-based gang members.
The complaint was made by Manish Bakshi alias Mannu, son of Ashwani Kumar. He is a resident of Nakodar city and proprietor of Bakshi Travel Company and B.B. School of IELTS for the past 16 to 17 years.
On November 11, 2025 the complainant received threatening calls from a foreign based mobile number. The caller claimed to be a member of the Goldy Brar and Rohit Godhra gang and demanded extortion money of Rs 5 crore. In regard to this, a FIR was registered at the Police Station City Nakodar under the Sections 308(5) and 352(3) BNS on November 14, 2025.
Subsequently, during the intervening night of January 16 and 17, 2026, the complainant received further threatening messages from foreign numbers claiming to have fired shots outside his office premises due to the non-payment of extortion money. Eventually, it was followed by a FIR on January 1, 2026 under Sections 308(5), 351(2), 125, 61(2), 3(5) BNS and Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act at the Nakodar City Police Station.
The police understanding the gravity of the situation formulated special teams under the directions of SSP Jalandhar Rural Harvinder Singh Virk. The operation was supervised by DSP Onkar Singh Brar and DSP Inderjit Singh Saini, with active participation from Inspector CTA Pushap Bali, SI Harmider Singh, SHO Police Station City Nakodar, and SI Dilbagh Singh, SHO. AGTF officers also worked closely and coordinated in the operation.
On the basis of secret intel, SI Harminder Singh, SHO Police Station City Nakodar along with the police team got to know about the accused involved in the Bakshi firing case were set to carry out another firing incident. The police acted promptly on the input and laid an ambush and naka-bandi on the link road leading from Bir Village Phatak on Nurmahal road towards village Sarkapur.
During the checkpoint, two suspects riding a motorcycle were signaled to stop, however, instead of complying the suspects opened fire at the police. The police in self defense retaliated in a controlled manner.
The accused Ankit Kumar sustained a gunshot injury and another accused Harinder Gupta sustained a fracture injury to his leg. Both the accused were overpowered successfully and taken into custody and were immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment under police supervision. The police recovered one .30 bore pistol along with three live cartridges. Currently, an investigation into the matter is ongoing and a strict and legal action will take its course.
