A local court has sentenced Shahbaaz Singh Sohi, husband of AAP MLA Anmol Gagan Maan, to two years of imprisonment in a cheque bounce case and awarded the same sentence to two other accused, Jatinder Singh and Nachhatar Singh, along with the jail term, all three have been fined Rs 10,000 each.
The verdict was pronounced by Chief Judicial Magistrate Preneet Kaur after the case remained under trial for over seven years. However, as per reports, all three convicts were granted bail on the spot.
Anmol Gagan Maan is a prominent face in Punjab politics and also a well-known Punjabi singer who hails from Mansa district and is an alumna of MCM DAV College, Chandigarh. Maan joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2021 and later in 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, she won from the Kharar constituency by defeating Shiromani Akali Dal’s Ranjit Singh Gill by a margin of 37,718 votes.
During the campaign, her statement on deciding MSP for farmers “in five minutes” had gone viral.
She later served as a minister in the Bhagwant Mann-led government, handling key portfolios like Tourism and Culture, Investment Promotion, Labour, and Hospitality, however she was dropped from the cabinet during a reshuffle in September last year.
