late-night clash between two groups in Dashmesh Nagar escalated into a shooting incident, leaving two youths injured and once again bringing concerns over law and order in the city into focus.
According to police, the incident occurred after a dispute between members of two groups turned violent. During the confrontation, gunshots were fired, injuring two youths identified as Saurav, 23, and Simranjit Singh alias Pappu, 25. Both were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Police teams reached the scene soon after receiving information and began an investigation. A cartridge case was recovered from the spot, and forensic experts were called in to collect evidence.
CCTV footage from before the incident has also surfaced. The footage reportedly shows several youths moving through the area carrying sharp-edged weapons, while one individual appears to be holding a pistol. Investigators are examining the footage as part of the probe.
AAP leader Subhash Goria said that Saurav is the son of Kiran, a member of the party’s women wing. He expressed concern over the growing number of violent incidents in the area and said residents increasingly feel unsafe. Goria called for strict action against those responsible for criminal activities.
Speaking to the media, Kiran said her son sustained a bullet injury while returning home after purchasing medicines. She said her husband works abroad and appealed for strong action against the accused, adding that residents fear such incidents could endanger innocent people and their children.
Meanwhile, Rajveer Singh, a resident of Kot Sadiq and a friend of Simranjit Singh, alleged that a youth known as “Gullu” opened fire during the incident. He claimed that one bullet struck Saurav while another hit Simranjit Singh in the neck. Rajveer further claimed that Simranjit Singh, who worked as an electrician, later died from his injuries.
However, police have not officially confirmed any death. Jalandhar ADCP Rakesh Yadav said that both Saurav and Simranjit Singh suffered gunshot injuries and that one of the injured youths was in critical condition while the other was stable at the time of the official briefing.
The ADCP stated that preliminary investigation revealed that members of the two groups had also been involved in a dispute a day before the shooting. He confirmed that cartridge cases had been recovered and that forensic teams were assisting in the investigation.
Police have launched raids to identify and arrest the accused. Officials said the case is being investigated from all angles and assured that those responsible would be apprehended soon. The investigation remains ongoing.
