The ongoing student protest at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara has led to the blocking of the Phagwara-Jalandhar National Highway, causing significant traffic disruption in the region. The blockade has affected movement on the highway, with its impact also being reported in Jalandhar and along the Ludhiana-Jalandhar route.
Residents in Jalandhar said they had stepped out on Sunday morning for routine work but were later stuck in long queues due to the traffic disruption. Traffic congestion was reported around key points including PAP Chowk, Rama Mandi and stretches of the Jalandhar-Ludhiana highway.
Meanwhile, a fresh video from LPU shows police cordoning off parts of the campus amid the protests. An LPU student speaking to the media questioned the nature of the protest and claimed that many students still did not have clear information about the woman involved in the alleged incident.
The student also alleged that outsiders entered the university premises after the gates were opened and claimed that the protest escalated into vandalism. He alleged that ambulances, window panes and other university property were damaged.
The student further alleged that laptops, electronic items and groceries were taken from the campus during the unrest. These allegations have not been independently verified.
Police have confirmed that an FIR has been registered against unidentified accused, while the alleged incident remains under investigation.
