A 22-year-old man's death in Ludhiana has sparked serious questions about gym safety and training practices after his family alleged that an excessive weightlifting exercise during a workout session led to his deteriorating health and eventual death. The incident took place in a gym located near Gopal Nagar Chowk on Tibba Road in Ludhiana.
What actually happened?
According to the family of the deceased, their son Shivam was performing his routine in the gym. Allegedly the gym trainer asked Shivam to do a leg press. Due to the excessive weight put for exercise, the victim faced serious issues and was rushed to the hospital. The family claimed that Shivam's condition worsened immediately after the workout. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors admitted him for treatment. Despite receiving medical care for nearly 22 days, Shivam succumbed to his condition, leaving his family devastated.
Protest outside the gym
Following his death, the grieving family staged a protest outside the gym by placing Shivam's body at the entrance of the fitness centre. They demanded strict legal action against the gym trainer and management, alleging that negligence during the training session resulted in the young man's death. The protest attracted the attention of local residents and passersby, prompting police officials to reach the spot and bring the situation under control.
Alleges by the family
Family members alleged that the trainer had asked Shivam to use more weight than he could safely handle on the leg press machine. They believe this excessive load caused severe physical complications that eventually proved fatal. The family has demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and accountability for those responsible if negligence is established.
Interaction with the family
While talking to the family of deceased, Aman, his brother stated the reason of death. He told the media that Shivan went through blockage in his nerves due to an issue in the spinal cord. While victim’s grandmother stated that upon questioning the gym authorities, no help was provided. Instead they clearly told the family that even the MLA could not prove us wrong. In addition to this she said that the victim’s father passed away when both the brothers were kids and expressed her grief.
In conversation with a gym official
While interacting with the media, a gym official stated that the gym has been in operation from 6-7 years and no such cases have ever come across. They clearly said that gym is not responsible for the loss and no negligence by the gym or trainer was done.
Police investigation
Meanwhile, police have initiated an investigation into the case. Officials said they are recording statements from the family, gym staff, and other witnesses to determine the exact sequence of events. Medical reports and other evidence will also be examined as part of the probe.
